LECTURE

- Introduction to Photoshop 2 -

# Lasso Tool

Tips*
Keyboard shortcuts # L
#Shift adds to the selection
#Option subtracts from the selection
Use a Magnetic Lasso for a more accurate outline (set anchor points to help outline the area)

The Lasso Tool allows you to draw and pinpoint specific areas of a document, it is great to use with a graphic tablet because it is similar to a pencil.

Three different Lasso Tool options
1. Lasso
2. Polygonal Lasso
3. Magnetic Lasso

# Pen Tool

- The pen tool is essential for creating custom paths from scratch.
- By adding points, you control the path's shape and dragging while placing points affects their curves.
- Fewer points result in a smoother and cleaner path.
- Creating precise shapes and paths through manually placed anchor points.

# Layering

Tips*
#File -> #Scripts -> #Load Files  [Open multiple images as layers]
#Preferences -> #General -> 1.skip transform(ON) 2.create smart object(OFF) 3.resize(OFF) \

Layers are different images stacked on top of each other, which won't affect another one to make adjustments

-Layers hold additional information or images that enhance the original file.

PRACTICAL & TUTORIAL

Working Process

Composition #1

Figure 3.02 - Composition 1

- Working Steps -
  1. Crop the image ‘texture’ into a square shape and slightly rotate it to add a dynamic element to the composition. (Background)
  2. Apply the tracing method to the image ‘texture-grunge ’ and create a flower shape. Enlarge the flower and place it near the center of the composition.
  3. Form a "special" tree by using the tree trunk from ‘building-2’ and combining it with the image ‘rubber-plant’, layering it over the flower.
  4. Crop an elderly couple from the ‘people-walking’ image and position them at the tree's bottom left. This placement evokes the feeling that they are admiring the tree, adding a human connection to the scene.
  5. Copy the flower shape multiple times and use the free transform tool to flatten and distort these copies, making them appear more spread out and grounded. Then place these flattened flowers beneath the elderly couple’s feet, creating the effect of them standing on fallen petals.

Composition #2

Figure 3.03 - Composition 2

- Working Steps -
  1. Use the image ‘texture-liquid’ for the sky
  2. Crop the beige building from ‘building-2’ as the center and enlarge the brown building from the same image, overlapping it on the right
  3. Use the black bottom section of ‘texture-2’ for the ground
  4. Use the tracing method, trace a tower from ‘texture-grunge’ and place it behind the beige building
  5. Trace several people by using the masking method, enlarge them, and place them on the frame
  6. The red color of the people and tower elements contrasts with the neutral tone of the scene

Composition #3

Figure 3.04 - Composition 3

- Working Steps -
  1. Use the image ‘bg-texture’ as the frame’s background
  2. Place the ‘fish’ in the center, and the ‘fish-2’ behind it.
  3. Place the building from ‘building-2’ between the two fishes to create a sense of separation.
  4. Use the ellipse tool on ‘texture-2’ to create a white semicircle for the moon, placed in the top right corner and a black semicircle opposite it for contrast.
  5. Use the ellipse tool again on ‘texture-grunge’ to create a large circle, representing a blood moon, and place it behind the elements.
