Biography about myself

- INTRO -
My name is Ye Yingying, and I am 20 years old. I’m from China, but I moved to Sabah, Malaysia, after I finished middle school. I completed my Foundation in Design at Taylors and am now pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Creative Media. I am passionate about creativity and innovation, and I am excited to specialize in the UI/UX field.

- PARAGRAPH 1 -
I have a deep love for storytelling and vibrant imagery. Growing up, SpongeBob SquarePants had a profound influence on my sense of humor, imagination, and outlook on life. The show’s cheerful characters and optimistic themes have always resonated with me, providing both comfort and inspiration.

- PARAGRAPH 2 -
My love for SpongeBob SquarePants has grown into a deeper appreciation for its lessons on optimism, resilience, and creativity. It reminds me of my carefree childhood days while also inspiring me to maintain a positive outlook on life. This connection to the show motivates me to embrace joy, find comfort in nostalgia, and let it influence my creative projects. I believe that its humor and life lessons can serve as a source of inspiration for creating meaningful and imaginative artwork.

- SUMMARY -
How do you want to visualize your dream into an artwork?
I want to capture the essence of SpongeBob SquarePants through playful and colorful designs that reflect its humor, optimism, and vibrancy. By incorporating elements inspired by the show's characters, underwater setting, and cheerful energy, I aim to create artwork that evokes joy and nostalgia while showcasing my individuality and creativity.

Statement about my work

- INTRO -
I created this artwork to reflect my love for SpongeBob SquarePants and the joy it brings to my life. Using a collage-like approach, highlighting the personal connection to his optimism and carefree nature. Through this piece, I aim to express my aspiration to embrace happiness as effortlessly as SpongeBob does.

- PARAGRAPH 1 -
What is the concept behind it?
The concept revolves around the idea of finding joy in the simple things, much like SpongeBob's cheerful world. By layering elements from his iconic home with my own selfie, I wanted to capture a moment of playful escapism. This represents my desire to bring a bit of SpongeBob’s endless positivity into my own life and to create a world where humor and creativity thrive.

- PARAGRAPH 2 -
What is the message you want people to understand?
The message I hope to convey is that it’s okay to seek happiness in the things that make you feel like a child again. Life can often feel overwhelming, but connecting with something as simple as a childhood cartoon can remind us to stay optimistic, laugh more, and appreciate the lighter side of life. It’s about embracing what makes you truly happy, no matter how small or quirky it may seem.

- SUMMARY -
This artwork represents my aspiration to live with the same happiness, optimism, and humor that SpongeBob embodies. By creating this playful piece, I celebrate the joy he’s brought into my life and my determination to carry that same cheerful energy into my everyday experiences.

Mood Board

Quote

“Today is the first day of the rest of your life. I promise to fly to the best of my ability, just for you. I will not let you down.”

This quote speaks to the power of new beginnings and the promise of striving to do your best. It reminds me of the optimism and unwavering dedication SpongeBob shows in every situation. No matter the challenges ahead, it’s about embracing the journey with enthusiasm and committing to give your best for the people you care about. Including this quote in my poster reflects my own belief in starting each day with purpose and positivity, just as SpongeBob does, always ready to make the most of every moment and never letting anyone down.

This collage is a fun and meaningful reflection of self-expression, positivity, and how imagination shapes my creativity. Inspired by SpongeBob SquarePants, it shows my belief in staying true to myself and finding joy in life’s simple moments.

The mirror selfie is a moment of self-reflection, capturing the real me while blending with the playful theme. The quote in the hand bubble is a personal promise to always try my best and be there for others, showing dedication and connection.

The bright background, jellyfish, bubbles, and window are inspired by childhood memories, reminding me to enjoy the small, colorful details in life.

This artwork celebrates individuality and reminds us to approach life with humor, optimism, and a bit of nostalgia. It’s about finding happiness in both the ordinary and the extraordinary.

Artist Statement

This collage reflects my creative journey of self-expression, optimism, and a lighthearted embrace of individuality. Inspired by the vibrant world of SpongeBob SquarePants, this piece captures a playful yet meaningful perspective on positivity, connection, and the promise to strive for one's best.

Each element in the poster contributes to this narrative:
- The figure (myself): This mirror selfie is actually a symbol of self-reflection and embracing authenticity, framed within a whimsical underwater world.
- The quote in the hand bubble: A personal pledge to do my best and not let others down, echoing themes of dedication and hope.
- The SpongeBob-inspired elements (jellyfish, bubbles, and window): Represent a carefree spirit and the joy found in life’s colorful details.
- The background setting: A playful connection to nostalgia, creativity, and childhood inspirations that shape my artistic voice.

Through this design, I aim to celebrate positivity, humor, and the beauty of bringing a playful imagination into the realm of self-discovery and visual storytelling. It is a piece that encourages others to see life through an optimistic, sponge-shaped lens.

Reflection

Working on this project was an exciting and rewarding experience for me. I’m really happy that I had the freedom to explore a concept I truly enjoy and create something inspired by SpongeBob SquarePants, a theme close to my heart. Through this, I conveyed a meaningful message about staying positive, being myself, and appreciating life’s little joys.

Throughout this assignment, I’ve noticed my skills improving, especially in using Photoshop and After Effects. I’ve gained more confidence in working with both platforms, whether it’s layering, masking, or animating elements to bring the design to life. It was also a lot of fun experimenting with creative ideas and seeing them come together in the final piece.

Overall, this project allowed me to express my creativity, refine my technical abilities, and share a personal and uplifting message through my work. I really enjoyed the process and look forward to exploring more creative challenges like this in the future.
