- Quote -
My chosen inspiring quote of the day is [ You are not fully dressed until you wear a smile. ]
- The reason I chose this quote is because it highlights the importance of a smile as an essential part of one’s appearance. No matter how stylish or well-dressed someone is, they aren’t truly complete without a smile. It encourages us to value our inner attitudes and emotions. True charm and attractiveness come not only from outward appearance but from the joy and confidence that a smile expresses. A smile is the simplest “accessory” that costs nothing but can significantly enhance one’s presence and approachability. While fashion and clothing may define style, the true finishing touch is always a smile.
- Inspiration -
- Based on the quote I chose, [ You are not fully dressed until you wear a smile ] I aim to focus on the word "Smile". I looked up some typographic expressions for it. I feel like the use of the letter "m" can be very effective in expressing the smile.

- Rationale -
- My idea is to create a poster that merges elements of photocopy textures, collage art, and fashion aesthetics to convey the powerful message that a while clothing defines style, a smile truly completes the look. And shows the idea of that confidence and joy are the best "accessories" anyone can wear. The design combines a minimalist color palette with bold, eye-catching details to draw viewers' attention.
- Sketch -
- The typographic expression for the word "smile" is based on integrating the concept of joy and facial expression directly into the typography. The design uses the arc of the letter "m" as mouth and the letters "i" and "l" as eyes to create the visual impression of a smiling face.
- Typeface -
- I chose this font because its structured design is clean, is giving stylish feel that matches the theme, and has elegant curves that I think will align well with the minimalist aesthetic of the poster without overwhelming other elements.
- Design Progress -

- Use the "Type on a Path Tool", to create a curve text, place it on top of the hanger

- Use the "Arc Tool", to create a curve line, use as the smile line, connecting the letter "m"

- Use the "Path Tool" and then "Divide Object Below", to shorten the letter "i", make it more looks like an eye, and more joyful

- Tilt all the letters based on the path of the smiley curve
- Use "Shpae Builder" to delete the extra part, to smooth the smile

REFLECTION
Additionally, creating effective typographic expressions was quite difficult. Conveying the right emotion and tone through typography required a lot of experimentation and attention to detail. However, I realized that I relied more on Photoshop (DPI-related work) for creating elements and designs rather than fully exploring Adobe Illustrator for IVN. While Photoshop helped me achieve the look I wanted, I feel I missed an opportunity to delve deeper into typography techniques and tools in Illustrator.
I really enjoyed this task because I loved the concept I created and the positive quote I chose to highlight. The quote felt meaningful and uplifting, and it was exciting to bring it to life through my artwork. Moving forward, I aim to explore more in Illustrator and experiment with typography further, while continuing to refine my skills in both DPI and IVN.
